Making $$ - a strategy…

January 7th, 2006

I’ve been using & refering people to www.planetsourcecode.com for such a long time now & this never occured to me… probably because i was not mature enough or i never thought on these lines!

www.rentacoder.com is a sister site of planetsourcecode (it seems so) which facilitates the meeting of a software buyer & a coder. People put up bids (software buyers) for projects that they want & people like me (coders) bid for those projects. Those bids which have a certain level of intelligence & honesty & a decent budget, get accepted by the buyer. The coder finishes the task & the buyer gives him the money. Rentacoder.com is the mediator, which facilitates this transfer of money & keeps a watch on all activities, preventing any foul play. Not to mention the 15% cut from each transaction goes to rentacoder guys!

& people have made millions by just bidding for such projects & completing them on time. For example, Tometa Software, Inc. has a net earnings of USD 1,956,532.30 (member since 9th Dec, 2001) & this ain’t a small amount! (INR 8,80,43,940)

So, what can be a successfull business plan?

What i realized after surfing & scanning zillions of biddable jobs at renatacoder was that they all can be clubbed into some categories, namely…

1) Development (core)
a) Win32
b) Linux
2) Development (web)
a) .NET/win32
b) LAMP
3) Software Testing
4) Infrastructure / Server management
5) Misc tasks
(might be other streams as well…)

So, if a team can be formed which can take up specific streams from these categories & deliver timely results, making money at rentacoder will not be a challenge atall. 5-6 people working under the same “nickname” can simultaneously bid for projects (in different or same streams) & deliver timely results. Profits can be shared according to the amount of work done or according to the number of BIDS completed.

I think, this model is definitely worth a try… atleast there’s nothing to lose. No risk & all gain!

:-)
off to bidding new projects :-P
